Anyone who knows about my work, will know that I insist the ‘starting point’ for phonics knowledge and understanding, and provision, is A REALLY GOOD GRASP of the complexities and quirky, historic spelling system of the English ‘alphabetic code’ – and that this is best achieved with the use of TANGIBLE, OVERVIEW ALPHABETIC CODE CHARTS!

By-the-way, in the ‘Synthetic Phonics Part 2 video’, there is reference to ‘Unit 1 of Phonics International’ being ‘FREE’ but the WHOLE PHONICS INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME is now free! If you’ve found this post, you’ll already know this!

All three phonics programmes, Floppy’s Phonics (published by Oxford University Press), Phonics International and No Nonsense Phonics (the latter two programmes published by Phonics International Ltd) include the ever-present overview Alphabetic Code Charts (‘Giant’ and ‘Mini’) – and then the programmes ‘chunk’ the alphabetic code with core resources in systematic steps. All three phonics programmes are based on my ‘Two-pronged systematic AND incidental phonics teaching and learning approach‘.

NOTE: Floppy’s Phonics is designed for infants and has a range of various resources (interactive digital platform, hard copy glossy teaching and learning books and reading books, paper-based core practice activities including worksheets or workbooks, and more); Phonics International is provided online via pdfs and can be used from 4+ to adults if required; No Nonsense Phonics is a pick-up-and-go paper-based programme with some additional pdf free resources that can be used from 4+ and throughout primary if required. The hard copy resources designed for No Nonsense Phonics can also be used with Phonics International as the ‘key picture-words’ and order of introducing the code in NNPS Books 1 to 8, and PI Units 1 to 6 are the same – and the same key picture-words are used on my FREE overview Alphabetic Code Charts. All three phonics programmes also have Alphabetic Code Charts that are available to buy ready-made.
