In previous posts, Literacy Advisor Carl Pattison has described the benefits and results of the rich-content, paper-based approach of the No Nonsense Phonics programme implemented in multiple schools of the Flying High Trust, with Reading Leaders describing their ‘Surprises‘ from adopting No Nonsense Phonics in their various infant, junior and primary schools.
Twelve of the sixteen top-performing Flying High Trust schools use No Nonsense Phonics and these are their results below. The percentage refers to how many of the Year One children undertaking England’s statutory Year One Phonics Screening Check in each school reached or exceeded the 32 out of 40 words read correctly (or ‘plausibly’ for the 20 pseudo-words). Carl is clear that these results are thanks to the adoption of the No Nonsense Phonics programme delivered well by the teachers (with continuing professional development provided by Carl). Across all England’s schools where children are eligible to undertake the Year One Phonics Screening Check, the national average results are 80%.
