Thank you so much to Year One teacher and Phonics lead, Aimee Flook, who organised some live Zoom training events for a school ‘refresher’ and for some new colleagues at the school. I received permission to share this video in the public domain for the benefit of other teachers and teaching assistants, and Aimee sent me this lovely comment (below) to add to this blog. It’s always so wonderful to ‘meet’ people who are passionate about teaching children in the best way they can and who aspire to be ever-better in what they know, understand and deliver. Aimee is one such enthusiast, she told me she ‘loves phonics’, she asked to be the Phonics lead in her school – and she sent me this message:
‘I am in my third year of teaching phonics using the No Nonsense Phonics programme and Phonics International resources. Every year I appreciate these programmes’ resources more!
The No Nonsense Phonics pupil workbooks provide children every opportunity to practise phonics in a truly multisensory way. They become independent learners and quickly learn to apply taught code in both their reading and writing.
The FREE resources available through Phonics International complement the No Nonsense Phonics pupil books perfectly for additional practice or intervention for slower to learn children, I just appreciate this generosity so much!
I have recently taken on the role of Phonics lead in my setting and have been in lots of contact with Debbie who is so incredibly lovely, knowledgeable and generous with her time, helping me find my feet in this new role.
I see fantastic progress in children using the programme, and love seeing them succeed in learning to read and write. There is no better feeling!’
